Great Escape Book Club 2017

I'm watching my neighbor, Nicky, walk his dog.  Last year he was a somewhat chubby fifth grader whom I met at a pen pal club run by his school. During the snowy months, this sixth grader's become a taller youth, almost a man.  (Now if he could just put down that phone while he walks...) Transformation is all around the neighborhood this week. It's almost spring and time for Great Escape planning to kick into high gear (along with flowers.  I need green things to grow!)

Neighborhood, community and transformation are some of the themes of our pick for this year's book - the fourth Great Escape book club selection.  Oh and humor, too! This is our first fiction book.
A Man Called Ove by Fredrick Backman
I don't want to give away the plot so I'll just say that on Goodreads, its average rating is 4.35/5 and over 177,000 people have rated it.  We think you will love it - and it's an 'easy read' too!  Enjoy, and watch for registration for the 2017 Great Escape to open soon!

Thought Of The Day From The Oval and Clapham Tube Station

For the past 9 years, an employee at a London Tube station has posted a "Thought of the Day."  You can see some of them here.  I thought you might like to see what he posted as a reaction to the attack at Westminster yesterday.
(BTW the Oval is a cricket stadium, and Clapham is a section of London.)

Cookie Centennial Dance

Girl Scouts has been celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scout Cookie this year.  The Lexington Girl Scouts dedicated their annual "Me and My Pal" dance to the Girl Scout Cookie Centennial, and I thought you might enjoy some pictures from the party!
Part of the Cadette Troop which organized the dance for the Daisy/Brownie/Junior GS and their escorts

The photo booth is always a hit, and the props sure celebrate cookies!

Round and Round they go under the tutelage of Mr. Jim Banks, dance caller extraordinaire!  How long has he been doing the GS dance?  Even I can't tell you that.  But he's been retired from teaching gym for quite a while now!

Graveyard of GS cookie flavors.  I miss the lemon cremes.  What's your favorite blast from the past?
