By now, most of us have at least heard 
about Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, and her book entitled “Lean 
In.”  In Lean In, Sheryl Sandberg examines why women’s progress in 
achieving leadership roles has stalled, explains the root causes, and 
offers compelling, commonsense solutions that can empower women to 
achieve their full potential.
We think that this book is relevant to us
 as women, and as leaders of girls. Longtime attendee Julie has graciously agreed 
to lead a discussion of this book on Saturday afternoon, between the end
 of workshops and dinner.  Read the book, think about it– and bring your
 reactions and ideas!  And don’t worry – this is an addition to GE and 
you won’t miss any workshop opportunities. All are welcome to

ReplyDeleteSince we are having the discussion on the book Lean In, I decided to download it to my Kindle over the weekend. I have only read 1 chapter, but coming from a totally male dominated workplace, I found this quote to be interesting: "Men get promoted based upon future potential. Women get promoted based upon past accomplishments."

Yes, Sue, I think this is true. I also think that the potential that is spotted in males is not solely their technical/professional/business potential but the potential to be a 'good mate' that is, to participate in the tangential activities popular in that work sector such as golf, running, softball, basketball (think President Obama!) etc.
