Second Annual Alumnae Day at Camp

Once again GSEM's Alumnae Committee is ready to welcome every adult who has ever been a Girl Scout to our Alumnae Day at Camp on October 22nd from 11 - 3.
Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts has been making significant investments in a number of council properties, including Camp Cedar Hill, and we are excited to share them with you! Camp Cedar Hill boasts a renovated Rookery and a new climbing wall.

During the 2015 Alumnae Day at Camp, singing was a favorite activity and we are happy to have Kathy Johnson (yes, Great Escape's own Kathy J!)  joining us this year to lead us in many of our favorite Girl Scout songs. Singing will take place in Great Hall. It was just about a year ago that Great Hall was renovated and we were able to celebrate its rejuvenation. If you have not seen Great Hall, its beauty is reason enough to come for the day. Great Hall was originally a cow barn (housing about 100 cows at a time.)  Thousands of girls have passed through the doors of Great Hall since that time.

Alumnae Day at Camp will include activities for alumnae of all ages and abilities. Attendees choose how to spend their day. Both the low and high challenge courses will be open along with the archery field. This year, the new climbing wall will be available to attendees. A campfire will be ablaze for visitors to gather and reminisce over a s’more, and guests may visit the Museum at Cedar Hill, which houses one of the most extensive collections of Girl Scout memorabilia in the country.

The Great Hall will host the opening ceremony at noon and will serve as the gathering spot throughout the event. Guests will be able to join in song, enjoy tea and snacks with “Juliette,” and participate in a service project. We are once again partnering with Sweet Peas Multiple Miracles and completing a service project for the babies in NICUs in eastern Massachusetts.

Hiking trails will be well-marked and self-guided tours will be available at the Camp Cedar Hill maze, home to the brick walkway. The Pathway to Leadership commemorative brick program began in 2012. At the site of the former maze, the pathway features bricks bearing messages from Girl Scouts’ many friends. Guests are invited to view the bricks and the displays showing the original maze and the camp many years ago.

STAY OVERNIGHT!   NEW this year is the opportunity for alumnae to enjoy the daytime activities and then stay overnight at Camp Cedar Hill. Camp-certified alumnae have arranged for a cabin site and tent site. Overnight activities will include more singing, eating, and the smell of the campfire with great views of the night sky. The Orionids Meteor Shower peaks this year on the very weekend the alumnae are returning to camp.

Registration for this event is open to adults – no need to be currently registered as a Girl Scout. The $15 event fee includes a commemorative patch in honor of Juliette (it is her birthday month after all!) and all daytime activities.

Register online by clicking here or mail payment of $15 to GSEM,  Attn: Alumnae Day at Camp, 95 Berkeley Street, Boston, MA 02116. Overnight festivities are an additional $15 and may also be paid online.Any profits from this event will be used to support camperships for girls next summer.

Confirmations with directions, a final agenda, and a map will be sent two weeks prior to the event. If you wish to participate in the Color Guard for the opening ceremony, are interested in volunteering, or have questions, please contact Alumnae@gsema.org or call 857-453-5325.
